Fishing Report – 5/31/19: Greg and I headed out Smallmouth Bass fishing with Joe and Suzanne. It was another day of great weather and great fishing. We finished the day with a mixed bag: 10/12 on Smallmouth Bass with Joe taking honors for boating a 5#er, several others went 3.5-4.5#s. We were also able to boat their limit of 12 bonus Walleye, Suzanne boated the biggest going just shy of 29”. We also boated several rock & white bass, a couple perch and several farm animals. It was an action packed day of great fishing with a great crew.
Fishing Report 5/27/19: Greg and I went Smallmouth Bass fishing with Calvin, Michelle, Markus and Kelsey. The weather was perfect and, Markus and Kelsey were great on the sticks despite being only slightly bigger than the fish. We finished the day with a very mixed bag, 16 Smallmouth Bass; biggest of the day going 6#s, a 5.5#er and several going 4.5 – 5#s. We also boated 6 bonus Walleye, a couple nice Perch, several White Bass and too many farm animals to count. It was an action packed day and we had a blast fishing with you guys!
Fishing Report – 5/19/19: I headed out with Chad, John (Brett Keisel) and Mark expecting it to be a bumpy ride but to our surprise the lake was picture perfect. The first rod in, our deep rigger, was crushed before we were able to get the second rod in. From there it was non-stop action all day. We finished the day going 36/41 for Lake Trout with the biggest of the day going 19#. Numerous doubles, triples and even a couple quads for the day. Working with our friend’s at @Blacktop Charters there are a lot of Lakers with sore mouths today. Had a blast guys. Thanks!
Fishing Report – 5/18/19: Greg and I fished with long time customers Rick and Dawn, and finally they got some nice weather. We started off with an off and on pick but as we zeroed in, things changed to a steady bite. We finished the day 23/29 for Lake Trout with the biggest of the day going 17#. We also boated 2 bonus Walleye, a whopper 10.5#er and nice 8.5#er. Its always a great time fishing with those guys!
Fishing Report – 5/5/19: I fished the first Lake Trout trip of the year with Mark, Keith and Frank. The day started with fog but turned out to be a beautiful day to be on the water. The fishing wasn’t to shabby either. We finished the day going 9/12 on Lake Trout with the biggest going just over 15#s. We also boated 2 bonus Walleye, going 4 and 6#s. Mark was the winner of 2018 L'Arche Erie, Inc charter raffle.
Fishing Report – 9/16/18: Walleye fishing remains red hot! Greg and I headed out with Dan, Mike and Curt on picture perfect lake conditions and found a steady bite. We managed to easily box their 18 Walleye limit. It’s always nice when the stars align: great lake conditions, great fishing and a great crew!
Fishing Report – 9/1/18: Greg and I headed out with Brian and Tony. The lake started out a bit bumpy but laid down later in the morning. Once again this year we found great fishing. We ended the day boxing their 12 walleye limit and going 2/3 on Steelhead. The fish were bigger today with several being in the 5.5 – 6.5# range. Great fishing with a great crew!
EPSFA Summer Slam Pro / Open Division – 08/11/18 & 08/12/18; 2nd Place Day #2 / 3rd Place two day Overall: Team Outcast consisting of myself, Ron, Curtis and Oren fished the Erie PA Sport Fishing Association – Summer Slam Tournament in the Pro / Open Division. This is a two day tournament in which teams weigh their largest 12 fish each day with a combination of Walleye & Steelhead. Standings are calculated for each day and in a cumulative over-all score for both days.
During this season it has been very difficult to locate big fish with the majority of our catches being in the younger years classes. I pre-fished Thursday and Friday covering a lot of water in search of bigger fish. On Friday we found a couple promising spots that produced larger Walleye plus some bonus Steelhead. Day #1: We set out Saturday to where we had finished up on Friday. At the 6:am start we had a constant bite which kept us from keeping the majority of our gear in the water. Although we were constantly boating Walleye, these were smaller fish that weren’t going to help us at the scale. At 10:am, still boating plenty of Walleye, with little to no upgrades, we made the decision to pick up and run. It is always tough to lose time with your gear out of the water while the clock is ticking but we knew we needed some kickers in the box if we were going to have a chance at finishing well. We set up on another spot, that on Friday, showed some promise. We dropped the probe and it was bath water top to bottom. With time ticking we were on the verge of panic mode. We turned east and started to see cold water as we ventured deeper. Finding another bite we managed some upgrades and one mid-range fish. At the weigh-in our 12 fish boxed tipped the scales at 35.8 #s, with our big fish weighing 6.75 #s; landing us in the 6th Place spot for Day #1. Day #2: We made the decision to go back to where we started on Day #1. We had caught some bigger fish there on Friday and with good temps and bait still in that area we didn’t think Friday’s fish would leave that area. With the 6:am start, the first rod down got crushed by a mid-range sized Steelhead. Once again we managed a steady Walleye bite. With a better ratio from the prior day and the upgrades started to come. As mid-morning approached the fish kept improving, with better and better upgrades. We added a couple kickers to the box and were starting to think we might have a decent box. At the buzzer we had another nice Steelhead crush a rigger, bust the surface and gone, Ouch! We headed to the Day #2 weigh-in feeling confident that we should be in the mix for the Day #2 totals. At the weigh-in our 12 fish boxed tipped the scales at 52.8 #s, with our big fish weighing 9.80 #s; landing us in the 2nd Place spot for Day #2 and 3rd Place for the two day overall. |
